I am delighted to introduce you to Kolin Weaver, a most talented bridal wear designer.
We caught up recently and here is what he has to say about his amazing background and pedigree in the fabulous world of bridal fashion:
“I was born and educated in Zimbabwe, Africa, where I had an idyllic childhood growing up with a creative freedom inspired by the colours and textures of nature and wildlife.
My mother was a concert pianist and made her own gowns for the stage. I was intrigued with her design and manipulation of fabrics, and at an early age, I developed a passion for textiles and design.
In my early twenties, I was offered a position as a designer with a very on trend company manufacturing for the local and international markets (Cape Town, Johannesburg, Fort Lauderdale & Frankfurt) I designed two womenswear and two menswear collections a year. Whilst there, I was mentored by an incredible man of vision who gave me the best understanding of a garments life from start to finish.
I went on to win Designer of the Year which helped me set up my own brand which included couture wedding gowns. I dressed many of the socialites, celebrities and First Ladies and hosted many runway shows locally and abroad. I designed the collections for two of the Miss Zimbabwe winners who went onto the Miss World pageants.
I moved to the UK in 2000 and joined a couture house where we created beautifully made dresses and gowns for high profile clients. I then went on to work for Amanda Wakeley, and as part of her team we created four womenswear and two bridal collections a year. In addition, we designed couture gowns for celebrities and royalty in the most beautiful and sumptuous fabrics.
As time passed, I was drawn back to my passion of bridalwear, creating gowns with a love and understanding of each brides wishes.
My philosophy is to create a wedding gown collection to enhance the beauty of each bride and to make them feel their most elegant of their day.
